Kick-Start your Holiday Party Planning

The Holiday season is upon us, and planning a great holiday party can be fun but stressful. It's only natural to want to plan a fun and memorable event for all your guests. Don't stress there are some helpful and easy steps to follow to create and prepare for an unforgettable holiday party.

Before you start planning, always consider the number of people you want to invite, what type of food you will be serving, and if you wish to implement a theme. Once you've answered these questions, the planning can commence.

Food or Food?

It's no guessing that food is one of the essential components to having a successful event or party. Whether you are serving appetizers, casual dining, or a buffet, knowing what you will be serving your guests is essential. If you plan on hosting a large guest list, looking for a great caterer might be the easier option. It's important that if you are interested in booking someone to cater your party, start planning now so you can reserve with enough time. During the holiday season it's not uncommon for catering businesses or any rental business to get booked out quickly.

If you are expecting a smaller crowd making some easy dishes might be the best bet for your holiday party. Home-cooked meals are always special, and if you aren't expecting a big crowd, cooking a couple of dishes can be the star on-top to make your holiday party that more special. Don't know where to start? Here are a couple of ideas or options for your holiday dinner menu:

Do-it-yourself dinner options:
  • Mac 'n Cheese: Classic, simple, and you can make a lot of it without making a dent in your wallet.
  • Sweet Potato Casserole: This might be a bit more of a dessert, but it makes for a great side dish, and people will love it.
  • Honey/Glazed Ham: You can get any sized ham at your local grocery store but make it your own. Add simple toppings like honey, cranberry sauce, or brown sugar to give a delicious twist to your holiday ham.
  • Loaded Mashed Potatoes: You can't go wrong with some delicious mashed potatoes. Loaded mashed potatoes will have your guests going for seconds (or even thirds). After adding all the essentials to classic mashed potatoes, add in chopped bacon, cheddar cheese, and some scallions.
Table setup, chairs, and linen might also be a question that needs to be answered. Magic Jump Rentals has a selection of tables, chairs, and linens for you to choose from. Whether it's a party of 50 or a party of 10, we have party rentals to suit your event perfectly.

Want something different for your holiday party, check out some of Magic Jump Rentals LED furniture. The multi-colored furniture will set the vibe for the night.

To have a theme or not to have a theme, that is the question?

Adding a theme to your holiday party might be a given, but sometimes you want to do things differently and add in a bit more detail to the event. A classic holiday party with Christmas trees, red and green lights and decor, can be the easy front runner for your event's theme. But there are other simples themes that you can incorporate to your party that can make an extraordinary difference.

Winter Wonderland: Don't have snow? No problem. You can still bring a Winter Wonderland to your event with easy DIY projects.
  1. For Indoor setup: Use white or light grey linens for all your tables and use white chairs for seating. For a delicate and simple centerpiece idea, buy some fake snow or a snow blanket from any craft store and spread it out across the middle of the table, add some white glitter over the top. You can add some white, silver or gold candles in the center in a clear vase to create an enchanting look. Use silver and white serving dishes to really make your dinner pop.
  2. For Outdoor setup: Add some white lights to the outside where you will be hosting your party. Align the space with lights on the porch, inside a tent or along the walls. Use white linens for all your tables and use white chairs for seating. You can use white candles or tea lights throughout all the tables to give a white, winter wonderland look. Add some cut out snowflakes throughout your outdoor setup to give it an extra touch. Add snowflakes to the table and you can also create centerpieces using the same steps as the indoor setup.
  3. For more Winter Wonderland ideas check out this Pinterest board.

Sometimes you find yourself attending or planning several Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving dinners, not to worry. We have a couple of helpful tips to help get you started.

Too Soon For Holiday Season? It’s Turkey Time!

Before we jump into the holiday spirit, let’s make a quick stop at the feast of the year, Thanksgiving. Every year, Friendsgiving is becoming more and more popular. Usually celebrated a couple of weeks before the actual Turkey day, it’s a great time to have some fun with friends and family.

As essential as food is to the feast, it’s crucial to make sure there is plenty of great decoration, seating, and of course, entertainment.

Planning is key. Making sure you have all your turkeys in a row before the big dinner is essential, but there is no reason to worry. There are so many DIY projects that will save you time and money.

    • Have leftover pumpkins for Halloween, use them as centerpieces on your table.
    • Mason Jars make for a great vase or candle holder. Use some twine and put a bow on the mason jars. Fill them up with gorgeous fall flowers and put a tea light candle.
    • Have some leaves in your yard? Don’t throw them away! Melt some wax in a bowl and cover the best-looking leaves with it. Let them dry, and you have some great Thanksgiving decor.

5 Helpful Safety Tips for This Trick or Treating Season

It’s the time of the season again, Halloween is here, and that means trick or treating. Magic Jump Rentals loves to deliver the fun, but we also want your little ones to have a safe trick or treating season. Here are some helpful tips for parents to keep in mind this Halloween season when going out and taking your kids to get their treats.

    Take a Flashlight

As a precaution, it’s good to carry a flashlight with you while going out and trick or treating. Some streets and homes may not be as well lit as others, and it’s important to look out for any obstructions or tripping hazards. Get some fun and colorful glow sticks for the kids that they will love and keep them safe.

    Plan your Route

To avoid a long night, plan a safe and thought out route of all the locations you think will be good for trick or treating. Stick to the homes you know will be handing out treats to avoid any sad trick or treaters. Not sure which house are handing out candy this year?

There are helpful apps like NextDoor, that help parents map out their trick or treat route in the surrounding neighborhood. The app shows which neighbors will be handing out treats or hosting a haunted house.

    Face Paint vs. Masks

It might get a bit harder to see at night, and face masks might cause a problem if they don’t fit right. Think about trying face paint versus a mask. This might help prevent any tripping or vision impairments at night.

    Pick the Right Bucket

There are so many trick or treating buckets, pumpkins, and bags for your little ones to use, it’s important to find the right one for them. Keep in mind the amount of walking and weight they might be carrying in those bags. Choose a more durable bucket or bag that can withstand more weight, and you don’t have to worry about their bags ripping or bucket handles coming off.

Trick or Treating with a Group

Trick or treating with other parents and their kids is a great idea. Going as a group can not only be safer but fun for your kids to experience trick or treating with other kids. Always stick to the sidewalks, and help clear the way for the little ones to have a safe path.

    Check the Treats

This tip is nothing new. Make sure to check your children’s candy and treats before they eat them. Throw out any unwrapped or suspicious candy or snacks in your children’s bags and buckets. Don’t trust any repackaged sweets or snacks.

    Extra Dollars for Extra Security

So you're planning an event and you have many options for vendors. You're shopping around and notice the same item in two different locations, with two different prices. You wonder why the same item is listed at different prices: One vendor is giving you a 50% discount, another vendor will deliver for free and a different vendor will even let you keep it over night for no extra charge. With all the different options and different vendors, and different prices, who do you choose so you know you have peace of mind if anything is to go wrong?

Picking the perfect party package is only half the job. When you are price shopping and looking for the best deal you can find, keep your eyes out for the fine prints each company has. When hosting a party and/or event, you become the person responsible for all the guests at the party. Make sure the company you are renting from is fully insured and can provide you with an insurance certificate which will protect you if anything happens. Even though we all plan (and some of us overplan) to prevent injuries, sometime accidents happen and kids may get hurt.

If and when a child gets hurt, it becomes your responsibility as the host, to take care of the injured person. An insurance certificate provided by your vendor covers you if an accident occurs during your event.  Make sure that the vendor you are renting from is fully insured and is able to put your name, or the location of the event, as a certificate holder. If your name is on the insurance certificate as the "certificate holder", you are fully insured for the duration of time that is listed on the insurance. When the company provides you with an insurance certificate, it is your responsibility to make sure that all the information on the certificate is correct.

One question that gets asked a lot is "Is the permit I got from the city and the insurance certificate the same thing?"

Actually, no. The permit that is given to you from the city (usually for city park rentals or even a block party) is a written document from the city that gives you permission to host your event at the park. A permit is usually needed if you are having vendors at your event: especially for an inflatable. If you have an inflatable (or any other vendor) at your event, and do not have a permit, the city rangers may come and have you shut off the inflatable and will be unable to use it.
The insurance certificate you get from your vendors covers you for the duration of your event which  covers for any injuries that may happen. If your vendor does not supply you with an insurance certificate, and an injury happens, you are held responsible for any expenses that need to be covered for the injured person.

    Have a Hopping Easter Party!

Easter is right around the corner and you want to make sure your Easter celebration is one that will have guests jumping for joy. Send out your invites as soon as possible. Online invites are quickest, but if you want a more personal touch you may decorate card invites with an Easter theme.

As decoration for your party it is important to remember the pastel colors. Stick to these colors for your banners, table covers and paper goods. Baskets of eggs, Easter bunnies, chicks and spring flowers are all fitting symbols of Easter to decorate with.

On the menu you may have traditional Easter foods such as fish, rack of lamb or a roast lamb, and finger foods such as mini egg salad sandwiches or deviled eggs. For refreshments you may have Easter candies and cupcakes or cookies decorated with bunnies and chicks.

As for entertainment, you will definitely need to plan for an Easter egg hunt. Hide plastic eggs full of toys inside and outside the house for kids to find. Make some easier to find for the little ones. You may also play games like egg toss, egg roll or have an egg and spoon race. Having guests bring their favorite dyes for an egg coloring party is also a great idea.

Another great idea for entertainment is inflatable games. Why should the Easter bunny be the only one enjoying a day full of fun-filled hopping around? Any number of bounce houses, combo rides, inflatable slides and interactive games will make for an exciting Easter party.

For all your other party needs, Magic Jump Rentals even has tables and chairs, concession machines and carnival games. Plan your party with us to make sure all your needs are taken care of.

You may also find other party services to entertain your guests with at any one of our city party planning pages, including: DJs, face painters, cartoonist/caricaturists, airbrush tattoo artists and live entertainers.
