5 Helpful Safety Tips for This Trick or Treating Season

It’s the time of the season again, Halloween is here, and that means trick or treating. Magic Jump Rentals loves to deliver the fun, but we also want your little ones to have a safe trick or treating season. Here are some helpful tips for parents to keep in mind this Halloween season when going out and taking your kids to get their treats.

Take a Flashlight

As a precaution, it’s good to carry a flashlight with you while going out and trick or treating. Some streets and homes may not be as well lit as others, and it’s important to look out for any obstructions or tripping hazards. Get some fun and colorful glow sticks for the kids that they will love and keep them safe.

Plan your Route

To avoid a long night, plan a safe and thought out route of all the locations you think will be good for trick or treating. Stick to the homes you know will be handing out treats to avoid any sad trick or treaters. Not sure which house are handing out candy this year?

There are helpful apps like NextDoor, that help parents map out their trick or treat route in the surrounding neighborhood. The app shows which neighbors will be handing out treats or hosting a haunted house.

Face Paint vs. Masks

It might get a bit harder to see at night, and face masks might cause a problem if they don’t fit right. Think about trying face paint versus a mask. This might help prevent any tripping or vision impairments at night.

Pick the Right Bucket

There are so many trick or treating buckets, pumpkins, and bags for your little ones to use, it’s important to find the right one for them. Keep in mind the amount of walking and weight they might be carrying in those bags. Choose a more durable bucket or bag that can withstand more weight, and you don’t have to worry about their bags ripping or bucket handles coming off.

Trick or Treating with a Group

Trick or treating with other parents and their kids is a great idea. Going as a group can not only be safer but fun for your kids to experience trick or treating with other kids. Always stick to the sidewalks, and help clear the way for the little ones to have a safe path.

Check the Treats

This tip is nothing new. Make sure to check your children’s candy and treats before they eat them. Throw out any unwrapped or suspicious candy or snacks in your children’s bags and buckets. Don’t trust any repackaged sweets or snacks.

Extra Dollars for Extra Security

So you're planning an event and you have many options for vendors. You're shopping around and notice the same item in two different locations, with two different prices. You wonder why the same item is listed at different prices: One vendor is giving you a 50% discount, another vendor will deliver for free and a different vendor will even let you keep it over night for no extra charge. With all the different options and different vendors, and different prices, who do you choose so you know you have peace of mind if anything is to go wrong?

Picking the perfect party package is only half the job. When you are price shopping and looking for the best deal you can find, keep your eyes out for the fine prints each company has. When hosting a party and/or event, you become the person responsible for all the guests at the party. Make sure the company you are renting from is fully insured and can provide you with an insurance certificate which will protect you if anything happens. Even though we all plan (and some of us overplan) to prevent injuries, sometime accidents happen and kids may get hurt.

If and when a child gets hurt, it becomes your responsibility as the host, to take care of the injured person. An insurance certificate provided by your vendor covers you if an accident occurs during your event.  Make sure that the vendor you are renting from is fully insured and is able to put your name, or the location of the event, as a certificate holder. If your name is on the insurance certificate as the "certificate holder", you are fully insured for the duration of time that is listed on the insurance. When the company provides you with an insurance certificate, it is your responsibility to make sure that all the information on the certificate is correct.

One question that gets asked a lot is "Is the permit I got from the city and the insurance certificate the same thing?"

Actually, no. The permit that is given to you from the city (usually for city park rentals or even a block party) is a written document from the city that gives you permission to host your event at the park. A permit is usually needed if you are having vendors at your event: especially for an inflatable. If you have an inflatable (or any other vendor) at your event, and do not have a permit, the city rangers may come and have you shut off the inflatable and will be unable to use it.
The insurance certificate you get from your vendors covers you for the duration of your event which  covers for any injuries that may happen. If your vendor does not supply you with an insurance certificate, and an injury happens, you are held responsible for any expenses that need to be covered for the injured person.

Helping YMCA Programs Grow

While Magic Jump Rentals is a proud sponsor of many non-profit organizations, we have decided to go a step further by making a donation to the Culver-Palms YMCA Preschool. We believe that a strong sense of community comes within the people, businesses and the supporters. The YMCA has a wonderful program that assists families that cannot afford childcare or preschool with scholarships by business and people’s donations.

The YMCA Preschool program gives children the opportunity to become part of a learning environment filled with social building skills, singing, reading, writing and building strong social characters. The program also allows parents to enroll their children in various different programs such as swimming classes, summer/winter camps or join one of the many sport teams such as basketball, soccer or cheerleading. Supporting programs such as this is very important to us here at Magic Jump Rentals because we believe that no child should be left without the opportunity of a higher education.

'We Bought A Zoo' Invites Magic Jump Rentals' Lion To Party

Hollywood seems to have approved of the services of Magic Jump Rentals. Most recently, the production company for “We Bought A Zoo” rented a Lion bounce house for their wrap party on Saturday, April 23. Magic Jump Rentals delivered the fun to contribute to the festivities celebrating the completion of the upcoming major motion picture featuring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

The movie is set in Southern California, where a father moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo. It sure sounds like a fun movie, and gauging from the atmosphere at the wrap party it looks to be a great family film for those who may be interested. Children and adults both were entertained all day long with the bouncer. We wouldn't expect anything less with inflatable games!

The event was a major success and as always Magic Jump Rentals was happy to be a part of the celebration and would like to thank those with “We Bought A Zoo” for turning to us for their party needs.
